The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved N9 billion for the distribution of 750,000 clean cooking stove and 18,000 wonder bags for refuse disposal.
They said the stoves and wonder bags, which are meant for women in the rural areas, will be distributed under the National Clean Cooking Scheme (NCCS) which seeks to stem the use of solid fossils like firewood and charcoal for cooking which has adverse effect on the users.
The NCCS aims to provide 20 million clean cook stoves through-out the country in 5 years, that is the distribution of at least 4 million clean cook stoves across the six-geo-political zones per annum.
The Council also approved N60 billion for the award of contract for the provision of engineering infrastructure to Kyami District, Zone C, Abuja.
Kyami District is one of the residential districts located in Phase V of the city with a land area or 942.56 hectares
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Bala Mohammed, while Briefing journalists alongside the Supervising Minister of Information, Nurudeen Mohammed, said this is in line with the statutory responsibility of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) of providing engineering infrastructure to the FCT.
He noted that the FCT was looking for opportunities to float bonds that will help open up more districts in the FCT.

The Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, has been elected the first female president of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).
Alison-Madueke was shortly elected President of OPEC at the ongoing 166th General Meeting of the body in Vienna, Austria. She replaces former President of OPEC, Libyan Vice Prime Minister for Corporations, Abdourhman Atahar Al-Ahirish.
She was before her election this morning the alternate president of OPEC and is expected to immediately begin to serve her one-year term at the helm of OPEC affairs.
OPEC is expected to at the 166th meeting, take key decisions that could halt the dwindling price of crude oil. Al-Ahirishhad in his opening remarks before the closed door meeting stated that ample supply, moderate demand, a stronger US dollar and uncertainties about global economic growth have been key factors in the recent price trend.
This, he noted, was in addition to the impact of speculative activities in the oil market.

As Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has concluded arrangement pick its governorship candidate for February 28th ,2015 guber election in the next few days during its
guber primary exercise, a group of Human rights activists in Lagos State under the aegis of Save Lagos Group(SLG) has urged the both national and state leadership, including elders of the party to ensure
that the immediate past Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro is nominated to contest the forthcoming guber election in the State.
The group also urged President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, National Chairman of the PDP , Alhaji Adamu Muazu and leaders of the party in Lagos State, Chief Olabode George to prevail on other aspirants to
allow Senator Obanikiro to be the candidate of the party through the harmonious resolution among the aspirants in such a way that would not cause rancor and disaffection within the party in the State.
Save Lagos Group(SLG) gave down the reasons for urging the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) in Lagos State to field Obanikoro as its governorship candidate, through its Convener, Comrade Adeniyi Alimi
Sulaiman, in a signed Statement, which a copy was made available to news men in Lagos State yesterday, stated that it was due to his (Obanikoro) political experience, sagacity, temerity, courageous and acceptability of his aspiration by the people of Lagos state.
Comrade Sulaiman described Senator Obanikoro as a leader with larger heart, humility, reliable, tested ,trusted, compassionate, level -headedness and politician with vast experience of Lagos State politics and key player in the nation’s politics since return of democracy back to Nigeria in May 29th,1999,insisting that only Obanikoro could bring victory to PDP in Lagos State.
SLG Chief further described Obanikoro as the doctrine of equity, justice and fair play which his leadership would create sense of belonging to the people and utilize the opportunity for the greater advantage of the citizenry through his principle of visioning and planning. According to the group, “Senator Musiliu Obanikoro believes in art of governance with the greatest zeal, commitment and dedication. He is a gifted and talented manager of human and material resources with immeasurable native wisdom and a brilliant political strategist who is capable of recouping when all appears lost and highly accommodating,warm, friendly and ready to shoulder responsibilities. “He is ready to provide a vibrant leadership that is totally committed to the well-being of the citizenry with candour and fear of God with the ultimate objective of uplifting the people of Lagos State beyond the way he met them”
He also described the critics against Senator Musiliu Obanikoro ambition as hypocritical, cheap blackmail, misleading, mischievous, evil, undemocratic and mere political propaganda by the enemies of
Progress in the State, saying that a few unfounded allegations raised against Obanikoro were never substantiated by anybody in the country.
The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) is committed to ensuring reduction in road traffic crashes statistics in the state during this year embers months compared to any other year.
The Corps Commander of TRACE, Ayo Sangofadeji disclosed this while speaking to newsmen on this year accident free day at the Corps headquarters in Abeokuta.
Sangofadeji said the Corps would intensify efforts on its public enlightenment programmes especially at motor parks across the state and bring erring motorists to book.
“Our goal this year is to ensure reduction in road traffic accident compared to 2013, we will intensify efforts by way of enlightenment and strong enforcement of our road users” he said.
According to him, the Corps desired to proof a point to members of the public that ember months do not kill but motorists’ attitude needed to be addressed by ensuring total compliance to safety rules and regulation.
Speaking on the role of passengers, the TRACE boss advised them to be at alert, watch drivers’ attitude, and manner of driving and report any behavior contrary to safety of lives to appropriate authority.
In his word, “we have one driver to many passengers in a vehicle; one person should not be allowed to negatively dictate where the journey of others would end”.
The accident free day was a day set aside yearly, every 3rd Sunday of November to remember road traffic accident victims, those that worked in rescue team and reflect on how reduction in road traffic accident could be achieved.
